ROUNDABOUT

2020

Sound-file, loudspeaker, computer, motion sensor, trash can

ABOUT HIS WORK, THE ARTIST SAYS:

The audio installation Roundabout aims to interpret documentation of several outings made in a week-long period in Grafarvogur at the beginning of February 2020. In the text, I ponder on everyday actions, the closeness of nature in the nearby surroundings, creating habitat and the importance of places and spaces that are often overlooked without reflection.

A small speaker is located within a trash bin. The speaker is connected to a motion sensor which triggers a reading of the text. By choosing this perhaps unusual location, I aim to emphasize how important it can be to take a pause on our daily journeys and experience the often-overlooked places that are an important part of our habitat.

Special thanks to Davíð Sigurðarson, Terra and Sunnufold kindergarten.
