The remains of the Breiðholt Farm site
Walking path along green space above Skógarsel 39 & beside Grjótasel 21
The exhibition SUBURB has been chosen a location in Breiðholt which, along with Árbær, is the first planned suburb in Reykjavík. Breiðholt derives its name from a farm which was located approximately where Skógarsel is now (north of 21 Grjótasel). The neighbourhood grew fast during the 1960s and 70s but the area also has an interesting history, oldest sources date from 1395, when it belonged to the Viðey Monastery. At the ruins of Breiðholt Farm, which are a part of the neighbourhood’s cultural landscape, old times and new literally meet.
